Job Description
Staff ML Engineer leading neural rendering and generative modeling for Torc Robotics’ autonomous truck software. Building scalable Camera, LiDAR, and Radar simulation pipelines for AV training and validation.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the team's technical lead, owning key design decisions and driving consensus across engineers and stakeholders
- Set and own the technical vision and roadmap for the Scene Generation team's Neural Rendering and generative modeling work, aligned to Torc's AV 3.0 strategy
- Lead the Scene Generation team day to day, prioritizing work, unblocking engineers, and making final architecture and technical approach decisions
- Implement and guide the team in applying the latest research advances in Neural Rendering and generative models
- Translate research into production-quality Camera, LiDAR, and Radar sensor simulation for perception simulation and AV 3.0 training
- Own the neural rendering framework end to end, from research, design, and implementation through testing, cloud integration, and deployment
- Integrate the framework in a cloud environment and automate pipelines for autonomous-truck target verification and validation
- Design, implement, test, and deploy production-quality software using disciplined development processes
- Work within the cloud machine learning ecosystem, owning integration and scaling decisions for the team's pipeline
- Assess capabilities, identify improvements, and drive solutions aligned with strategy and operations
- Represent the Scene Generation roadmap, priorities, and constraints to peer teams and leadership
- Mentor, coach, and grow engineers; participate in hiring, onboarding, and career development
Requirements:
- Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, with the corresponding experience: 10+ years for Bachelor's, 7+ years for Master's, or 5+ years for PhD
- Alternatively, PhD or equivalent work experience of 8+ years in a relevant field, with experience shipping production software and leading technical teams
- Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch
- Proven expertise in Neural Rendering, including Neural Radiance Fields and 3D Gaussian Splatting
- Expertise in generative models, including Diffusion Models and Flow Matching
- Experience with production data in robotics and/or autonomous driving
- Background in Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, 3D Reconstruction, or 3D Computer Vision
- Experience handling autonomous-driving sensor data across multiple timestamps and modalities, including cameras, LiDAR, and radar
- Recognized expertise with ability to conduct complex, high-impact work under minimal supervision
- Experience with VDI and cloud-based machine-learning development environments
- Demonstrated experience leading a team or serving as a technical lead
- Track record of mentoring and developing engineers, including senior individual contributors
- Ability to design, maintain, and own team technical solutions and drive organizational alignment
- Bonus: autonomous-driving or robotics perception production experience

- Bonus: MLOps and infrastructure tools such as Ray
