Job Description

Staff Software Engineer building Nodal®, Milliman IntelliScript’s AI-powered SaaS platform for P&C claims. Designing scalable React, Python, cloud, and data solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and enhance software solutions for business challenges
  • Contribute to architecture, design, and planning of new features and system capabilities
  • Collaborate with data scientists, data engineers, actuaries, and subject-matter experts
  • Integrate data science, AI/agent outputs, and model-driven insights into production workflows
  • Build and maintain unit, integration, and automated tests
  • Manage workload according to project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
  • Help achieve sprint goals through independent work and cross-functional collaboration
  • Participate in code reviews
  • Support and improve deployment pipelines and release processes
  • Assist with security, encryption, sensitive-data handling, and platform-level technologies
  • Architect and implement React/TypeScript front ends, including Next.js, and Django/REST backend API services
  • Support asynchronous or long-running integrations
  • Design, optimize, and maintain SQL databases
  • Document code, architectures, and features
  • Use GitHub and GitFlow in collaborative development
  • Deliver scalable, high-quality Nodal® SaaS products that analyze claims data, predict claim risk, and activate early interventions

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of relevant software development experience
  • Strong experience with Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, and SQL
  • Experience with React, TypeScript, and preferably Next.js
  • Experience building backend API services with Django, REST, or similar Python web frameworks
  • Cloud development experience with Azure and/or AWS
  • Experience with Docker or containerized application development
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Terraform
  • Understanding of Agile practices such as Scrum
  • Experience with the full software development lifecycle
  • Excellent technical design, problem-solving, and debugging skills
  • Experience with domain-driven design, microservice architecture, event-driven architecture, REST API design, and testable code
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to interpret and implement business and functional requirements
  • Ability to translate clients' business needs, claims workflows, and claims expertise into actionable product requirements
  • Understanding of test automation
  • Understanding of secure software development practices, especially with sensitive or regulated data
  • Curiosity, openness to new ideas, and commitment to continuous learning
  • Deep and evolving understanding of software engineering and industry best practices
  • Ability to analyze, break down, and solve complex technical and business problems
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and contribute to a positive, high-performing culture
