Job Description
Staff Software Engineer building Blackboard’s consumer product for authenticating thinking and learning. Owning secure, full-stack features from design through production.
Responsibilities:
- Build a consumer product that verifies the authenticity of thinking and learning
- Own user-facing product interfaces and core learner experiences
- Develop secure communications between server-side, browser, and client-side components
- Encrypt sensitive user data and ensure privacy and security
- Design storage architecture and schemas for persistent user state
- Implement data access controls and audit logging for institutional security and compliance
- Own features end-to-end from specification through production, including testing, monitoring, and iteration
- Use AI-assisted development tools to maintain high output and code quality
- Contribute to shared component libraries and codebase standards
- Research circumvention tools, best practices, and industry competitors
- Make judgment calls and ship products in an evolving, ambiguous environment
Requirements:
- Master's degree in computer science or related field with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience
- Native proficiency with AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent
- Experience shipping full-stack products to real users with accountability for their operation
- Strong product instincts and user-experience judgment
- Ability to move quickly, make sound decisions under ambiguity, and improve codebases
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain authorization throughout employment
- Must include a portfolio or GitHub link with the application
