Job Description

Tax Specialist processing payroll and sales tax filings for Back Office, a unified restaurant accounting and payroll software solution. Resolving notices, ensuring compliance, and improving tax operations through automation.

Responsibilities:

  • Process payroll and sales-related business tax filings across applicable federal, state, and local jurisdictions
  • Prepare and process original, amended, and delinquent tax returns and associated payments
  • Research tax notices and liaise with tax agencies for clarification and resolution
  • Investigate tax discrepancies, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
  • Process amended returns, payment corrections, account reconciliations, and agency adjustments
  • Document findings, resolutions, and preventative actions
  • Research federal, state, and local payroll and sales tax laws to ensure compliance
  • Recommend updates to internal procedures
  • Participate in tax operations automation and new technology initiatives
  • Support continuous improvement through documentation, testing, and process refinement
  • Deliver timely, professional, and accurate customer communications
  • Collaborate with internal departments to resolve client and operational issues

Requirements:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify and resolve issues efficiently while ensuring compliance and accuracy
  • Effective verbal and written communication with clients, agencies, and internal stakeholders
  • Proficiency with payroll systems, tax software, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, self-start projects, and meet deadlines independently
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work independently within a collaborative team environment
  • In-depth knowledge of state employment tax, sales tax, and federal/state tax laws
  • Demonstrated experience processing federal, state, and local payroll tax filings and payments across multiple jurisdictions
  • Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong customer service experience with clients, government agencies, and internal stakeholders
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in payroll tax, sales tax, or a related tax compliance role
