Job Description

Area Manager overseeing territory operations and growth for CWS, a public works services employer. Managing municipal utility projects, client relations, financial performance, and Project Managers.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the overall operation and growth of the assigned territory
  • Provide direction and ensure the success of assigned project locations
  • Review project contracts for compliance and customer satisfaction
  • Maintain ongoing client contact and strengthen client relations
  • Attend monthly Project Manager meetings, review financials, set goals, and collaborate to maximize efficient operations
  • Develop and maintain tools to measure growth and performance
  • Review and evaluate financial performance and determine activities required to meet company goals
  • Prepare performance reports for upper administration
  • Prepare weekly reports for each project and track performance
  • Identify opportunities for employee skills development and required training
  • Communicate daily with Project Managers; assist with work organization and scheduling and identify project needs
  • Maintain relationships with city officials, employees, contractors, the general public, and other agency representatives
  • Communicate business goals effectively
  • Attend customer meetings and professionally resolve service problems
  • Prepare clear verbal and/or written reports to council/board as required
  • Perform other related duties as directed

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
  • Must reside in the state of Alabama
  • A minimum of an Alabama Grade 3 Wastewater Certification
  • Additional State Certifications Preferred (Water Treatment, Wastewater Treatment, Natural Gas, Public Works)
  • 5 years’ experience in Public Works (specifically water distribution, natural gas distribution, WWTP, collections)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • 5 years’ experience at a supervisory level
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License
  • Knowledge in municipal public works such as planning, design, maintenance, and construction
  • Knowledge in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in municipal public works operations
  • Knowledge in principles of budget preparation and expenditure control
  • Knowledge in Principles of Effective Management
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate, and implement municipal public works and utility programs/projects
  • Ability to analyze organizational and administrative problems, recommend alternative courses of action, and provide leadership to others in implementing such actions
  • Must meet stated physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing into and out of high-clearance vehicles, working in confined places, and using required safety equipment
  • Must be able to work in environments involving outdoor elements, loud noise, active machinery, high-pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens, and chemicals
