Job Description
Benefits Specialist administering health, retirement, disability, and leave programs for SSM Health employees. Supporting enrollments, vendors, HR partners, and complex benefits questions remotely across four Midwestern states.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with day-to-day administration of employee benefit programs, including life insurance, health care coverage, disability, retirement, and related programs
- Specialize in one area within employee benefits as applicable
- Recommend benefits changes based on employee feedback and other data
- Coordinate benefits delivery and fund transfers with benefit vendors
- Support HR Business Partners with communications and administrative support for benefit programs
- Participate in developing employee benefits policies and procedures
- Serve as a resource for employees regarding benefit programs, enrollments, life events, and complex benefit questions
- Partner with employees and vendors to provide a seamless benefits experience
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Preferred: 2 or more years of experience in leave of absence administration, FMLA, or related human resources experience
- Strong working knowledge of FMLA, state and local leave laws, disability, and paid leave administration
- Experience partnering with third-party disability vendors
- Excellent written communication skills

- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience or education
- No experience required
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception for near and far distances and to identify and distinguish colors
- Frequent use of hearing and speech for oral communication
- Ability to hear alarms and malfunctioning machinery
- Frequent keyboard use/data entry
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and gripping
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25–50 lbs.
- Rare climbing
- No required professional license or certification
