Job Description
Business Development Manager developing mega-project opportunities for Watts, a water solutions manufacturer. Providing technical expertise across hydronic cooling, process water, HVAC, and industrial applications.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and convert strategic project opportunities within Watts' Mega Projects verticals
- Develop and maintain relationships with owners, developers, engineers, contractors, distribution partners, and manufacturers' representatives
- Engage project stakeholders early in the design cycle to influence product selection, specifications, basis-of-design positions, and project requirements
- Develop and execute project-specific business development strategies to maximize Watts content and convert opportunities into orders
- Build and maintain a robust project pipeline with project schedules, stakeholders, specifications, competitive positioning, and forecasts
- Provide technical support and application expertise for hydronic cooling, process water, technical water, HVAC, and associated mechanical piping systems
- Assist engineers, contractors, end users, and distribution partners with system design, product selection, specification development, and application guidance
- Support master specifications and project documentation promoting Watts products and solutions
- Partner with Product Management, Engineering, Applications Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Sales teams on project-specific solutions
- Coordinate quotations, pricing strategies, commercial positioning, and competitive response plans
- Monitor project schedules, procurement timing, material requirements, and execution risks
- Provide field support and troubleshooting during installation, commissioning, start-up, operation, and maintenance
- Develop and deliver classroom, virtual, and hands-on training programs
- Maintain understanding of industry standards, plumbing codes, mechanical codes, specifications, and regulations
- Represent Watts at conferences, trade shows, standards committees, customer events, and industry associations
- Gather and communicate market intelligence, customer feedback, industry trends, competitive insights, and emerging application requirements
- Identify product gaps, market opportunities, and customer needs supporting future products, services, and initiatives
- Maintain accurate opportunity, project, and forecast information in CRM and business systems
- Resolve technical, commercial, operational, and supply chain challenges cross-functionally
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities
- Travel up to 70% throughout the South-Central U.S. territory
- Report to the appropriate National Sales Manager or Director; no supervisory responsibility
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, Business, Industrial Technology, HVAC, Mechanical Systems, or related field; equivalent industry experience may be considered
- Minimum 7 years of experience in technical sales, field sales, applications engineering, business development, or customer-facing commercial roles
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting engineered products, systems, and technical applications
- Experience within flow control, plumbing, HVAC, hydronic systems, process water, industrial piping, mechanical systems, or related industries
- Working knowledge of valves, actuators, hydronic cooling systems, process water systems, HVAC systems, and associated piping applications
- Strong understanding of project lifecycle management, including design, specification, bidding, procurement, construction, and project execution
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships and influence decision-makers throughout complex project environments
- Experience working with owners, engineers, consultants, contractors, distributors, and manufacturers' representatives
- Ability to interpret specifications, drawings, bills of material, schedules, and technical project documentation
- Strong commercial acumen with experience supporting quotations, pricing, negotiations, project strategy, and competitive positioning
- Advanced problem-solving, negotiation, and influencing skills
- Strong project and opportunity management capabilities
- Proven ability to work effectively across Sales, Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Supply Chain, and Marketing functions
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong organizational, time management, follow-through, and prioritization skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM platforms
- Understanding of and adherence to applicable laws, codes, policies, regulations, and safety practices and procedures
- Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete background checks and required pre-employment testing
- Candidates should be located near a major airport
- Preferred: Experience supporting Data Center, Semiconductor, EV/Battery, Advanced Manufacturing, or other Mega Project verticals
- Preferred: Experience with commercial construction, industrial facilities, critical infrastructure, or mission-critical applications
- Preferred: Familiarity with plumbing, mechanical, hydronic, and HVAC design standards and codes
- Preferred: Experience driving basis-of-design specifications and influencing engineering design decisions
- Preferred: Experience creating and delivering technical training programs
- Preferred: Knowledge of market trends, industry standards organizations, and competitive products within targeted verticals
