Job Description
Cultural & Language Advisor specializing in Chinese Mandarin supporting security cooperation efforts. Providing expert translation, cultural analysis, and insight on complex issues related to China.
Responsibilities:
- Provide language-enabled research, analytic services, and forward-thinking insight on complex issues related to China
- Be responsible for the full range of activities in processing material or participating in situations requiring advanced capability to perform translation, transcription and interpretation tasks in support of the customer
- Prepare assessments of current events based on sophisticated collection, research and analysis of open-source information, as well as develop and maintain analytical procedures to meet changing requirements and ensure maximum operations
- Scan, sort/categorize foreign language written and verbal materials to recover essential elements of information
- Complete lists, translations, and transcriptions, of complex and sophisticated written and/or spoken materials from Chinese Mandarin to English, and English to Chinese Mandarin
- Perform quality control on language processing activities
- Independently monitor and research various media to identify relevant Chinese language web content
- Perform translations of various types of documents
- Transcribe information into summaries
- Additional duties as assigned or required
Requirements:
- Level 3: 6 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 4 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant experience.
- Level 4: 10 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 8 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 years relevant experience.
- Level 5: 15+ years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13+ years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19+ years relevant experience.
- native or near-native competency in Chinese Mandarin
- Experience translating and summarizing general and technical material
- Proven ability to review, edit, and prepare executive-level briefing materials to ensure accuracy and quality
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with demonstrated expertise in Word and PowerPoint
- Excellent ability to work autonomously or in team-based environments, adapting approach to meet project needs.
- Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

- Advanced Chinese Mandarin language skills equivalent to or above ILR 2+ level for reading and writing
- Knowledge of U.S. Department of Defense security cooperation policies and procedures
