Job Description

Commercial Portfolio Manager leading commercial loan portfolios for First Merchants Bank. Managing credit risk, due diligence, loss prevention, reporting, and portfolio team development.

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively lead a team responsible for managing a portfolio of commercial loans.
  • Establish and enforce clear and consistent processes and procedures to balance new business growth while minimizing risk of loss.
  • Collaborate with relationship managers and portfolio managers in loan structuring of new opportunities and identifying solutions for borrowers’ activity.
  • Establish and administer due diligence processes and procedures for new Commercial Lending borrowers.
  • Provide direction and oversight for due diligence, including general business review, analysis of pertinent financial data and collateral profile.
  • Attend management presentations and guide team members in interviewing prospective clients and obtaining information concerning business needs, abilities, and earnings.
  • Assess credit risk.
  • Oversee portfolio quality and maintenance.
  • Monitor current loans and customers’ credit profiles to ensure conformity with terms.
  • Ensure current credit and financial information is obtained and collateral is adequate.
  • Provide direction for review of financials with customers and provide expert advice.
  • Direct loss prevention and determine necessary action on loans, including resolving issues pertaining to substandard and special mention loans.
  • Monitor developing trends.
  • Support employee development and training; counsel, motivate, coach, mentor and provide leadership.
  • Oversee reporting tools to identify portfolio trends and new business credit metrics.
  • Prepare scheduled management reports.
  • Lead projects and develop or refine efficiencies and processes.
  • Remain current with applicable regulations and policies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of commercial banking or related experience.
  • Credit analyst experience would be a plus.
  • Process oriented experience would be a plus.
