Job Description
Sign Graphic Designer creating production-ready sign visuals and technical fabrication drawings for Jones Sign Company. Applying CorelDRAW, Photoshop, materials, illumination, and installation expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Create production-ready visual representations from conceptual ideas for print and electronic media
- Manage the design process from concept through final deliverable
- Collaborate with multiple internal and external teams and convert written or spoken ideas into effective designs
- Select substrates, finishes, illumination methods, and mounting approaches based on durability, availability, cost, finish quality, structural needs, and project requirements
- Manage priorities, follow up on dependencies, reprioritize as needed, and meet or exceed deadlines
- Surface missing information, risks, scope changes, and timeline impacts proactively
- Apply layout, proportion, hierarchy, spacing, typography, contrast, sightlines, and legibility principles to create clear, buildable sign solutions
- Work independently and cooperatively on multiple projects while meeting deadlines and budget constraints
- Schedule project implementation based on workload
- Maintain brand integrity through accurate logo use, color matching, PMS/paint/vinyl callouts, finish selections, and illuminated color considerations
- Update and maintain internal design databases
- Create vector designs using complex layering, precise Bezier curves, overlapping paths, and path-finding operations
- Blend 3D sign vectors into site photos using perspective matching, lighting and shadow layers, nighttime illumination, neon glows, and material textures
- Incorporate depth, returns, reveals, illumination zones, mounting conditions, material transitions, installation constraints, and service access into designs
- Use accurate measurements, scale relationships, overall dimensions, material yield awareness, and viewing-distance requirements in production-ready drawings
- Partner with internal teams to resolve design, material, fabrication, installation, and customer concerns
- Utilize emerging AI trends to reduce process timelines and improve deliverable quality
Requirements:
- Sign industry experience required
- CorelDraw experience required; CorelDRAW is the main software used in the design department
- Mastery of CorelDRAW or Adobe Illustrator for vector graphics is mandatory
- Advanced Adobe Photoshop skills for photo simulation
- 5+ years' related experience as a Graphic Designer in the sign industry desired
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field preferred
- Understanding of various sign types and fabrication methods required
- Proficiency with CorelDraw required
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator is a plus
- Strong portfolio including technical fabrication drawings
- Strong eye for visual composition
- Effective time management and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to give and receive constructive criticism
- Understanding of marketing and corporate identity
- Knowledge of materials, fabrication methods, and installation processes preferred
- Experience with computer-aided design
- Ability to read and understand architectural drawings
- Knowledge of layout, proportion, hierarchy, spacing, typography, contrast, sightlines, and legibility principles
- Knowledge of substrates, finishes, illumination methods, and mounting approaches
- Knowledge of measurements, scale relationships, material yield, and viewing-distance requirements
- Sign design samples or a portfolio link must be submitted with the application
