Job Description

Credit Officer managing equipment-finance credit risk for Flagstar Bank. Analyzing loan requests, approving credit, monitoring portfolios, and developing risk-management strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review Flagstar Approval Memos, loan modifications, and portfolio reviews with Relationship Managers
  • Conduct credit analysis, industry research, and company research to recommend appropriate credit structures
  • Review, approve, or decline credit requests and escalate recommendations as appropriate
  • Serve as a voting member on credit committees for loan approvals
  • Monitor credit portfolios and lead credit risk review activities
  • Assist in developing loan-level strategies and oversee asset management reporting
  • Identify portfolio trends and support effective portfolio management strategies
  • Participate in weekly deal screening meetings
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and internal policies
  • Collaborate with lines of business to develop and refine credit policies and procedures
  • Attend client meetings and conduct on-site project visits as needed
  • Develop and monitor key risk indicators for the Bank
  • Review departmental reports to track portfolio performance and identify emerging risks
  • Lead or contribute to special projects
  • Collaborate with peer managers to share best practices and improve team performance
  • Improve templates, analytical tools, and procedures for the credit analysis process
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion in decision-making
  • Analyze and resolve problems

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree (4 years or equivalent) in Business, Finance, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in credit/lending
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data and assess creditworthiness
  • Ability to make timely, well-informed credit decisions under pressure
  • High accuracy reviewing financial statements, legal documents, and credit reports
  • Ability to clearly communicate credit recommendations, risk factors, and policy exceptions
  • Ability to work effectively with relationship managers, clients, and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to identify problems proactively and develop practical, risk-conscious solutions
  • Proficiency with credit scoring models
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency with financial modeling tools
  • Proficiency with risk management software such as Moody’s RiskCalc and S&P Capital IQ
  • Ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Ability to build trusted internal and external client relationships
  • No unusual physical exertion is involved
