Job Description
Data Engineer II building healthcare data pipelines and analytics for a Massachusetts-based consulting firm. Supporting healthcare quality, affordability, and equity through claims data solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain data pipelines, ETL processes, and workflows to collect, clean, and transform data from various sources into usable formats
- Ensure data integrity, quality, and accuracy throughout the data processing lifecycle
- Analyze and interpret healthcare claims data and related data sets to identify patterns, trends, and insights
- Generate reports, dashboards, and visualizations to communicate findings effectively to non-technical stakeholders
- Design, develop, and maintain databases, data models, and schemas for efficient storage and retrieval of data
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including health policy experts, analysts, and healthcare stakeholders, to understand business requirements and translate them into data solutions
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in data analysis, engineering, and visualization
- Identify opportunities to improve data infrastructure, processes, and analytics capabilities
Requirements:
- Deep knowledge of health data, multi-payer databases, public healthcare payers, claims processing, and claims data analytics
- Knowledge of US healthcare policy, trends, and factors such as eligibility, utilization, cost, and equity
- Knowledge of state government role in healthcare
- Expertise in data analysis and data visualization using tools such as SQL, Python, R, Excel, or similar
- Expertise in data profiling, manipulation, and transformation using tools like Pandas, SQL, or similar
- Mastery of data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI
- Familiarity with data modeling, database management, and cloud-based data solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Solid understanding of statistical analysis, data mining, and machine learning concepts
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with a keen attention to detail
- Strong communication and collaboration abilities, with the capacity to present complex findings in a clear and concise manner
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in healthcare administration, data science, statistics, or equivalent work experience preferred
- 5+ years of experience in SQL
- 5+ years of experience as a data analyst in the healthcare industry, preferably in claims
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
