Job Description

Database Administrator supporting GDIT’s mission-critical cloud databases for U.S. government clients. Managing production support, Databricks models, AWS services, ETL, and data reliability.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide production support for mission-critical database environments, including shift-based coverage and on-call support
  • Monitor database performance, respond to incidents, troubleshoot production issues, and coordinate restoration with development and operations teams
  • Perform root-cause analysis for production defects and contribute to long-term stability improvements
  • Work within an Agile solution development environment with daily scrums, biweekly sprint planning, and quarterly Program Increment planning
  • Develop operating standards and best practices for performance, security, scalability, and maintainability
  • Define, control, and coordinate data elements and standards; facilitate data relationships, systems integration, and physical structure
  • Participate in developing and implementing database management policies and standards
  • Gather business requirements with Product Owners and users and map them to technical requirements
  • Collaborate with agency leaders, stakeholders, consultants, and program/agency personnel on data analysis techniques
  • Document complex workflow designs for project teams and stakeholders
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret large amounts of data using advanced statistical analysis, data mining, and predictive modeling techniques
  • Synthesize information and identify patterns and relationships across data sources
  • Develop data visualizations for key performance indicators and program outcome metrics
  • Host peer reviews of other developers’ code; perform data validation and ensure data accuracy and integrity
  • Develop stored procedures, jobs, views, tables, and other database objects in SQL Server Management Studio
  • Design and develop scalable data models for Databricks lakehouse environments, including bronze, silver, and gold layers, dimensional models, fact and dimension tables, and curated data products
  • Develop and deploy ETL packages using CI/CD pipelines
  • Use configuration management systems for version control
  • Work with the Atlassian Suite of software development management tools
  • Index system and application logs in Splunk and create dashboards, alerts, and reports

Requirements:

  • At least seven (7+) years of Server database maintenance and database analysis or similar role
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Programming, Computer Engineering or relevant computer-based major; experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Experience supporting production database systems, including shift-based coverage and on-call responsibilities
  • Proficient experience with AWS database technologies such as Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL and other AWS-managed data services
  • Experience with Databricks and exposure to AWS cloud platform
  • Experience completing database environment installation, configuration, and ongoing administration support
  • Demonstrated understanding of standard data warehouse concepts
  • Adept with data modeling, data mapping, data flow diagrams, and data marts
  • Previous experience architecting and implementing cloud-based database solutions on various platforms
  • Experience with data migration from legacy on-premises databases to multi-cloud/hybrid cloud platforms
  • Ability to spearhead and work independently, prioritize, and get things done
  • Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be able to provide on-call support and/or follow a flexible work schedule as needed
  • Database or cloud certification preferred, such as AWS Certified Database – Specialty, AWS Solutions Architect Associate/Professional, or equivalent industry-recognized cloud/database certification
  • Experience creating and managing database reports, visualizations, and dashboards preferred
  • Knowledge of court operations and law enforcement business data preferred
