Job Description
Database Engineer II optimizing SQL Server storage, transactions, and T-SQL performance. Supporting Java teams with relational database design, backend processes, and legacy code modernization.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Java development teams throughout product design and development to ensure optimal SQL Server usage for storage and transaction processing
- Write, refine, and optimize T-SQL code for performance, reliability, and maintainability
- Analyze complex requirements and translate them into efficient backend processes
- Reverse-engineer legacy code and improve older T-SQL using newer techniques
- Design and implement relational databases and structures
- Develop storage design structures and data processing flows
- Create documentation for new and existing code
- Promote best practices, help define procedures, and support innovation and knowledge transfer across the organization
- Work primarily independently under general supervision
Requirements:
- 2-4+ years working as a database engineer or related role
- Intermediate to Advanced level T-SQL experience, including query tuning and optimization
- Experience with reporting platforms and translating business needs into functional and efficient T-SQL-driven reports
- SQL Server Administration experience is a plus
- ETL experience is a plus
- Intimate knowledge of SSMS and working knowledge of other MS SQL Server Tools
- Ability to work with differing workflows, including agile
- Sound and demonstrable knowledge of database development best practices and coding standards
- Experience with Source Control and workflow ticketing systems
- Experience with IDERA for SQL Server tools, including Diagnostic Manager and Admin Toolset
- Experience with SQL monitoring tools (Idera, SolarWinds, etc.) is a plus
- Knowledge of or experience using advanced SQL Server functionality, including Service Broker, Resource Governor, temporal tables, Query Store, Always On, and Stretch Database
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent functional experience in the area
- Occasional off-hour/evening/weekend and/or overtime availability
