Job Description
Business Development Director driving clinical-trial sales, strategic partnerships, and market growth for Emerald Clinical Trials. Leading BD professionals across assigned therapeutic, customer, or geographic markets.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute business development strategy for an assigned therapeutic area, customer segment, or geographic region
- Build and manage a portfolio of AUD$10-15M in actively developing opportunities
- Drive revenue growth, market expansion, and competitive positioning
- Own full new-sales responsibility for assigned business units
- Manage sales budget allocation, resource deployment, and profitability targets
- Develop business case analyses for strategic BD initiatives and market opportunities
- Monitor key sales metrics and ensure accountability
- Manage enterprise clients and C-suite sponsor relationships
- Develop strategic partnerships and lead high-value contract negotiations
- Lead and coach a team of 3-6 BD professionals
- Develop team members for advancement to director-level positions
- Conduct market analysis and competitive landscape assessments
- Identify emerging opportunities, market trends, and competitive threats
- Lead or co-lead major strategic proposals and RFP responses
- Coordinate clinical, operations, finance, and regulatory teams on proposals
- Close complex, high-value deals
- Represent the company at industry conferences, association boards, and strategic partnerships
- Provide market insights and business performance updates to executive leadership
- Participate in strategic business planning and annual sales goal-setting
- Support board-level discussions on market opportunities and competitive positioning
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Business, or related field
- 7-9 years of professional experience in sales, business development, or related field
- 5-7 years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or CRO industry
- 2-3 years of significant leadership experience managing BD teams and budgets
- Strong strategic thinking and ability to develop comprehensive business unit strategy
- Advanced senior-level relationship management and enterprise sales capabilities
- Exceptional team leadership, talent development, and people management skills
- Strong financial acumen, sales cycle management, and business planning expertise
- Excellent communication and executive presence; ability to influence at all levels
- Proficiency with Salesforce CRM and business analytics
- Technological proficiency including Microsoft Office packages
- Ability to see the big picture while focusing on detail and quality
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments
