Job Description
AstraZeneca government affairs director shaping corporate reputation, state policy, and patient access across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Leading lobbying, community engagement, and healthcare advocacy.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement regional reputation strategies for the greater New York area
- Lead therapeutic flagship programs with multiple stakeholders and ensure pull-through with commercial teams
- Build and implement regional community engagement strategies
- Serve as registered lobbyist for the region and lead state-based lobbying campaigns
- Integrate state policy across public and private payers to support brand access
- Lead early-diagnosis initiatives with public health officials, patient groups, and subject matter experts
- Build relationships with elected officials, governors, executive agencies, trade associations, think tanks, and third-party allies
- Lead engagement with national political organizations and committees
- Advance sustainability and health-equity initiatives
- Participate in PAC grassroots solicitations and organize and attend fundraisers
- Build positive community ecosystems and support US expansion initiatives
- Provide leadership on local state public-policy issues and serve as legislative strategy expert
- Align state-related business objectives across commercial, market access, legal, sales, and marketing teams
- Analyze legislative and regulatory initiatives and emerging issues affecting the company
- Develop legislative and regulatory strategies supporting brand objectives
- Manage resources, budgets, contract lobbyists, strategic alliance managers, and consultant evaluations
- Support PAC education and recruitment
- Liaise with Corporate Affairs partners and federal government-affairs lobbyists
- Develop strategies addressing the Inflation Reduction Act and other federal mandates
- Integrate AstraZeneca business goals and emerging political issues into regional strategies
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- 6–8 years of experience in pharmaceutical or related industry
- Field-based role
- Strong public speaking skills
- Strong negotiation and advocacy skills
- Knowledge of legislative, regulatory, and political processes
- Strong internal stakeholder and alliance-building capabilities
- Ability to accommodate lobbyists' travel and schedule, including late-night, off-hour, and weekend responsibilities
- Up to 40% travel required
- Desirable: 8+ years of experience in government, politics, or government affairs, including at least 6 years in the biopharmaceutical or related space
- Desirable: interpersonal communications, public speaking, and writing skills
- Desirable: experience with large public affairs projects enhancing corporate visibility, growth, and expansion
- Desirable: deep healthcare industry knowledge, especially public and private payers, supply chains, and state/federal political influence on the pharmaceutical business
- Desirable: experience collaborating across sales, market access, medical affairs, and corporate affairs functions
- Desirable: proficiency in standard business software applications
- Desirable: experience with ally development, public relations, and healthcare policy
