Job Description
Engineering Manager leading Python backend teams building CargoSprint’s logistics software. Setting architecture, managing people, and delivering reliable services with FastAPI, Temporal, and PostgreSQL.
Responsibilities:
- Lead an engineering team and design, architect, build, and evolve backend services powering critical platform functionality
- Set technical direction, raise engineering standards, and unblock the team while remaining hands-on
- Own 1:1s, performance reviews, career growth, and hiring
- Run planning, code reviews, and design reviews
- Serve as the main point of contact between engineering, Product, other Engineering Managers, and cross-functional stakeholders
- Build a culture of innovation, ownership, craftsmanship, and direct feedback
- Write code, review pull requests, and contribute to architecture decisions
- Lead backend design using Python, FastAPI, Temporal, and PostgreSQL
- Champion unit testing, code quality, CI/CD, monitoring, and reliability practices
- Leverage AI tooling to improve delivery
- Own the team’s technical roadmap and delivery from concept through production
- Set SLIs/SLOs, lead postmortems, and drive corrective fixes
- Drive observability through logging, metrics, and alerting
Requirements:
- 8+ years in software engineering or equivalent demonstrated impact
- 2+ years as a formal people manager
- Strong cross-functional communication skills
- Comfort with ambiguity and high ownership
- Experience in startup or high-growth SaaS environments
- Expert-level Python and backend API design, including FastAPI or similar
- Strong database design and query optimization skills
- Solid understanding of containers, deployment, monitoring, and reliability
- Track record of driving engineering quality and mentoring engineers
- Experience using AI tools to improve code, testing, documentation, and operations
- Familiarity with Python, FastAPI, Temporal, PostgreSQL, Azure Cloud, Docker, Kubernetes, Pulumi, and Vue.js
