Job Description
Mainframe IMS systems programmer supporting Ensono’s managed IT services clients. Providing 24/7 z/OS, IMS administration, database, migration, and disaster recovery support.
Responsibilities:
- Provide premium software support and services to Ensono mainframe clients relating to Mainframe IMS systems
- Fulfill customer service requests for mainframe z/OS customers concerning IMS and related OEM software products
- Provide primary support for reported IMS and related OEM software product problems
- Provide support on a 24 x 7 x 365 basis across multiple time zones
- Install OEM software products according to best practices and Ensono standards
- Support customer migration services and newly acquired customer transitions
- Assist project managers with customer migrations and resolve technical hurdles without impeding transition progress or migration dates
- Execute tasks associated with customers’ disaster recovery plans in cooperation with Disaster Recovery Services
- Manage schedules and resources for timely implementations
- Follow ITSM change control procedures
- Review new IMS versions and advise clients on functionality benefits
- Consult with vendors regarding problems and questions
- Perform disaster recovery of application objects
- Use IMS commands for ACB and FORMAT changes
- Code and use IMS reorganization utilities, including IBM, BMC and CA
- Identify and resolve performance issues
- Perform online tracing using IMS TRACE commands and associated utilities
- Extract information from IMS logs and use DBRC to monitor database activity
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required and/or equivalent work experience
- 12+ years of professional experience in IMS for administration and systems programming support
- Knowledge of best practices of software management, maintenance and documentation
- Experience configuring and managing IMS in a parallel sysplex environment
- Experience developing innovation, strategies, processes and best practices in IMS systems programming
- Experience troubleshooting and solving IMS system and database issues
- Experience evaluating change requests and determining impact to assigned clients
- Experience troubleshooting and solving production database issues
- Strong JCL skills
- Database administration experience
- Knowledge of IMS database organization using VSAM and OSAM access methods
- Knowledge of full function database organization types: HSAM, HISAM, SHISAM, HDAM, HIDAM, INDEX, GSAM
- Knowledge of HALDB logical databases, including PHDAM, PHIDAM, ILDS and PSINDEX
- Knowledge of Fast Path databases (DEDBs)
- Database design and related utilities
- DBD source coding and DBDGEN
- PSB source coding and PSBGEN
- Knowledge of secondary indexes and PROCSEQ=
- Correct usage of PROCOPT= to minimize database locking
- Understanding of path calls, bi-directional logical relationships and Data Set Groups
- CA and IBM tools for IMS are a plus
