Job Description
Forensic chemist red-teaming frontier AI models for chemistry misuse safety. Writing prompts, evaluating responses, and documenting technically grounded reference answers.
Responsibilities:
- Write challenging single-turn prompts in the chemistry and chemical safety domain
- Label prompts as benign, dual-use, or adversarial
- Evaluate model responses against a defined policy standard
- Judge whether responses handled technical requests correctly
- Write reference answers describing correct responses and the technical reasoning behind them
- Distinguish legitimate professional questions from requests indicating potential misuse
- Apply forensic and chemical casework expertise to assess AI safety behavior
Requirements:
- Experience conducting casework identifying substances and precursors
- Background in controlled substance casework in a forensic laboratory, including identification and quantitation
- Background in clandestine laboratory response, precursor identification, and scene chemistry
- Background in forensic toxicology involving postmortem or human performance casework
- Background in seized-drug and precursor trend monitoring or intelligence analysis
- Experience with expert testimony and report writing on chemical casework
- Strong technical writing ability; every judgment must include a rationale understandable to a non-specialist
- Prior technical writing, published research, or expert witness experience is a strong signal
- Must not use classified or export-controlled information, NDA-covered information, or information subject to prepublication review obligations
- Must disclose any such obligations so the work can be scoped accordingly
- Must be able to read and write about misuse scenarios in the field for sustained periods
- Red-teaming experience is ideally preferred
