Job Description
Full Stack Engineer building accessible Java/Spring and Next.js case-management software for government clients at Coforma. Developing secure APIs, interfaces, tests, and scalable platform features.
Responsibilities:
- Build a large case management system for a government client.
- Write and review code while ensuring high standards of quality, maintainability, and test coverage.
- Solve problems across the technology stack alongside other engineers, building new systems and improving existing ones.
- Consistently apply best practices, including accessibility.
- Collaborate with team members and government/client stakeholders to craft creative solutions and build technology products that improve community members' lives.
- Engage with coworkers across disciplines using Agile and Scrum methodologies.
- Participate in planning, breaking down requirements into tasks, refinement, and estimation.
- Work on a multi-service platform built around Java/Spring services, a shared library, and a Next.js UI.
Requirements:
- Full-time resident of the contiguous United States.
- Legally authorized to work in the US now and in the future without sponsorship.
- Must be willing to undergo and able to pass a Public Trust background check and any applicable background and/or security checks related to the project.
- Java and Spring Boot.
- Backend API development.
- REST APIs.
- JUnit 5, Mockito, MockMvc, and Spring Boot test support.
- Ability to write and maintain unit/integration tests for API and security behavior.
- Comfortable with CI validation and regression prevention.
- Front-end testing with Jest and/or Testing Library.
- Docker.
- Vault secret management.
- GitLab CI/CD and environment configuration.
- Next.js.
- React and TypeScript.
- Material UI.
- Form handling, API clients, and GraphQL/REST integration.
- Understanding of environment variables and deployment configuration.
- Semantic HTML.
- Securing applications with authentication/authorization.
- GraphQL usage and schema-driven client/server integration.
- Database migrations with Flyway.
- Knowledge of Agile and Scrum development methodologies.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Knowledge of Section 508 and accessibility best practices.
- Ability to write clear code and tests.
- Ability to deliver polished, scalable, maintainable, performant code.
- Preferred: experience using coding agents such as CoPilot or Claude Code.
- Preferred: 3+ years of experience building applications with open-source programming languages.
- Preferred: 3+ years of experience working with modern frameworks, libraries, or runtimes.
- Preferred: 3+ years of experience working with APIs and databases of various types.
- Preferred: 3+ years of experience working with infrastructure tools and Infrastructure as Code.
- Preferred: experience with Kubernetes, DataDog, and Helm charts.
- Preferred: experience developing software in a remote environment.
- Preferred: experience in digital services, government, or federal consulting.
