Job Description

General Manager leading Manulife’s non-timber revenue strategy across managed forest assets. Overseeing environmental projects, asset management, risk, and North American teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic direction and oversight of non-timber revenue-generating activities on client assets
  • Develop and monetize non-timber revenue streams on all client lands
  • Explore new business opportunities while managing financial and environmental project risks
  • Oversee transactions exceeding $100MM per year across North America
  • Lead development of team members’ skills and capabilities
  • Own and execute projects that grow revenue streams on client assets
  • Report to the President of MFM
  • Develop opportunities aligned with the principle “Good Stewardship is Good Business”
  • Lead a VAS team with four direct reports across North America
  • Interact regularly with Portfolio Management and Client Services, Global Resources and Planning, Operations, and Accounting teams
  • Maintain client fiduciary obligations
  • Prioritize people’s safety and environmental stewardship
  • Maintain strong service-oriented relationships with MFM and MIMT personnel
  • Service information and communication needs of multiple regional teams
  • Provide leadership to approximately nine employees
  • Develop and execute a recreation strategy
  • Oversee value-added revenue projects including carbon and wetland mitigation banks, mineral and aggregate sales, water filtration/storage, pine straw, and renewable energy
  • Develop internal personnel to identify non-core revenue opportunities
  • Oversee safety, stewardship, SFI® and FSC® compliance, marketing, planning, recreational use, and protection for non-core revenue projects
  • Oversee asset management, including acquisitions and dispositions
  • Lead stakeholder, public relations, regulatory, industry, and governmental communications
  • Assist with policy development and implementation
  • Oversee regional client accounting, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, taxes, financial accounting, debt management, and cash flow
  • Work with the Resource Support Team on forest inventory, forest planning, and modeling interfaces
  • Participate in regional industry associations and committees
  • Perform other assigned responsibilities

Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in the environmental field or equivalent experience is required
  • Graduate degree in an environmental-related discipline or business management is highly desirable
  • Experience working with agencies providing oversight to non-core revenue projects, such as wetland mitigation banks
  • Minimum of a combined ten (10) years of environmental project management
  • Minimum of ten (10) years organizational management and leadership experience within an organization of significant size and scope
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, collaborate across functions, and operate effectively in a self-directed environment
  • Excellent relationship, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Strong analytical, financial, and technology skills
  • Strong asset management skills
