Job Description

Manager, Human Resources partnering with Indigo’s retail leadership teams on talent, employee relations, and people programs. Supporting organizational effectiveness across Canada’s bookstore and lifestyle retail business.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with regional retail leadership teams and client groups to foster a high-performance culture
  • Provide strategic HR guidance supporting operational success in a retail environment
  • Deliver and embed core HR processes including staffing, performance and potential, succession, career planning, learning and development, and total rewards
  • Build trusted partnerships with business leaders and regional people leaders
  • Advise assigned client groups on enterprise and retail people programs and annual HR processes
  • Provide guidance and coaching on employee relations, performance management, risk mitigation, and complex people matters
  • Translate business strategy, market trends, and operational priorities into people plans and organizational solutions
  • Use people analytics, business insights, and workforce trends to identify opportunities and risks
  • Define employee engagement goals and action-planning strategies
  • Conduct sensitive investigations with professionalism, discretion, care, and expertise
  • Design and implement organizational changes, talent strategies, engagement initiatives, and communication plans
  • Partner on talent acquisition, succession planning, development planning, and retention strategies
  • Liaise between the business, HR teams, and Centres of Excellence
  • Collaborate with HR Centres of Excellence to design, deliver, and embed people programs, policies, processes, and initiatives
  • Support staffing, onboarding, talent planning, performance and potential processes, succession planning, and career planning
  • Support annual merit and bonus cycles, equity assessments, and compensation recommendations
  • Drive continuous improvement in people practices, processes, systems, and ways of working
  • Report to the Director, Human Resources – Retail

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5–7 years progressive experience in an HR business partner or generalist role, primarily in a multi-site or retail environment
  • Post-secondary education in HR, business, or a related field
  • CHRL or similar HR professional designation is an asset
  • Proven ability to navigate complex employee and labour relations issues
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian employment legislation
  • Strong business acumen and strategic problem-solving
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Cultural engagement expertise with a focus on operational excellence
  • Ability to surface and efficiently solve problems related to organizational, people, and change priorities
  • Alignment with Indigo values and passion for Indigo’s mission
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Previous experience with UKG (HRIS) is an asset
  • Ability to travel independently up to 25% across assigned regions, including overnight travel within Canada
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Occasional travel to Indigo Home Office in Toronto, Ontario
  • Access to a private and consistent home office environment suitable for confidential remote work
  • Bilingual English/French considered an asset
