Job Description

Inpatient coding auditor ensuring accurate, compliant hospital coding for OU Health. Auditing coder work, validating DRGs, and delivering targeted education.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate, quality, and compliant inpatient facility coding through prebill and retrospective audits
  • Provide targeted education to improve consistency and documentation quality
  • Perform routine monthly, focused pre-bill, CDI reconciliation, and second-level review queue coding quality reviews across OUH
  • Perform peer-to-peer auditor reviews
  • Communicate with teams and departments to resolve account review and code/DRG validation issues
  • Respond to coding-related questions from internal and external coding staff
  • Initiate rebilling processes as required by policy on special projects
  • Trial auditing-team tip sheets and training and provide constructive feedback
  • Maintain or exceed productivity and accuracy standards
  • Review official data quality standards, coding guidelines, policies, procedures, and clinical/medical resources
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Candidates must reside and work full-time in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, or Texas before their first day of employment
  • High School diploma or GED required for Level 1
  • At least 1 year of Inpatient Facility Coding Auditing or DRG Validation and at least 5 years of Inpatient facility coding required for Level 1
  • At least 3 years of Inpatient Facility Coding Auditing or DRG Validation, including at least 2 years of coding at an Academic Health Center, required for Level 2
  • Associate's degree required for Level 3
  • At least 5 years of experience in Inpatient Facility Coding Auditing at an Academic Health Center required for Level 3
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or CIC required
  • HFMA CRCR required within 6 months of hire for Level 3
  • Must meet all educational requirements stated in current Company policy
  • Must maintain current knowledge of official data quality standards, coding guidelines, Company policies and procedures, and clinical/medical resources
