Job Description

Internal Tools Engineer owning internal systems for a quantitative strategy startup. Automating operations, finance, reporting, and spreadsheet workflows while working directly with the founder.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and take over the internal platform used daily by operations, finance, and delivery teams
  • Learn, document, and stabilize existing systems so they do not depend on any single person
  • Build data capture and reporting to make key business metrics visible using agreed definitions
  • Replace spreadsheet-based workflows with platform systems, one workflow at a time
  • Identify and remove operational constraints by prioritizing the highest-impact work
  • Provide short weekly written updates, clear dates, and early warnings about risks or delays
  • Work directly with the founder without layers

Requirements:

  • You have been the engineer an operations team depended on; ideally you were early at a startup and built the internal systems the company ran on
  • Strong writing skills; ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical readers and provide short, specific, timely status updates
  • Operations-minded approach, prioritizing fixes that materially save time
  • Experience across application development, third-party integrations, data modelling, and sufficient infrastructure to maintain your own work
  • Effective use of AI tooling to work at a multiple of normal pace
  • Genuine autonomy and reliability in a remote environment
  • Ability to handle sensitive data and money-adjacent workflows with discretion and care
  • Bonus: experience inheriting and making undocumented systems dependable
  • Bonus: experience in operations-heavy businesses such as logistics, field services, fintech onboarding, or marketplaces
  • Bonus: experience with payments, reconciliation, or multi-account financial tooling
  • Bonus: familiarity with Notion, Discord, Google Workspace, Airtable, and lightweight project management tools
  • Bonus: interest in startups, investing, alternative markets, or behavioral strategy

Benefits:

  • Own an entire function from day one, working directly with a high-caliber founder
  • No red tape. You propose an improvement and you ship it
  • Shape how a fast-growing company is built from the ground up
  • Competitive compensation based on experience
  • Fully remote with flexible hours
