Job Description

Lead iOS Engineer owning Swift/SwiftUI development for HumanIT’s AI-powered learning platform. Leading mobile architecture, releases, mentoring and product experimentation remotely in Europe.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the mobile app end-to-end across architecture, performance, release processes and technical roadmap
  • Set technical direction and mentor the two engineers supporting mobile
  • Raise engineering standards while maintaining a pragmatic approach to delivery
  • Partner with engineering and product leadership on onboarding, growth and retention
  • Deliver a polished native iOS experience through smooth animations, responsive interactions and platform-specific conventions
  • Ship features, instrument user journeys, run A/B tests, measure impact and iterate quickly
  • Manage App Store releases, versioning, store optimization, crash monitoring and performance improvements
  • Potentially help build a dedicated mobile team as mobile capabilities grow
  • Work directly with founders and influence product decisions

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of native iOS development experience
  • Previous experience in a Lead engineering position, with demonstrated responsibility for technical direction and guiding other engineers
  • Experience leading and mentoring engineers while remaining actively involved in development
  • Strong proficiency in Swift and practical experience with SwiftUI and UIKit
  • Proven record of building and shipping consumer-grade iOS applications
  • Familiarity with Combine, push notifications and App Store deployment
  • Experience with Xcode, XCTest, TestFlight and App Store Connect
  • Strong knowledge of common iOS architecture and state management patterns
  • Experience debugging applications, optimizing performance and monitoring crashes
  • Ability to translate product goals into technical decisions and take ownership without waiting for fully defined requirements
  • Startup mindset: hands-on, autonomous, pragmatic, fast-moving and comfortable with ambiguity and evolving responsibilities
  • Proactive communication and confidence collaborating directly with founders and product stakeholders
  • English at C1 level or above, required for daily communication, technical discussions and team collaboration
  • Based in Europe
  • EdTech experience, particularly products supporting students, learning or study habits (preferred)
  • Experience in an early-stage startup or rapidly growing consumer platform (preferred)
  • Experience with product-led growth, A/B testing, onboarding and retention optimization (preferred)
  • Experience growing an engineering team or supporting technical hiring (preferred)
  • Objective-C experience (preferred)
  • Android development experience with Kotlin (preferred)
  • Familiarity with React Native, Expo or other technologies in the wider platform (preferred)
  • Based in Portugal, particularly Lisbon (preferred)
