Job Description
M&T Bank Lead CIAM Engineer designing secure customer identity, authentication, and authorization solutions. Leading enterprise software architecture, development, governance, and technical coaching.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and coach team members while working independently within approved SDLC processes
- Identify and recommend solutions that meet business needs while minimizing risk through clean, secure, resilient code
- Review and approve application designs, technical proposals, pull requests, technical requirements, and solution designs
- Oversee execution through change management, source control, release management, and deployment processes
- Design and lead peer reviews; coach engineers on code quality, coding standards, and continuous improvement
- Author secure, efficient source code and promote effective data structures, algorithms, and design patterns
- Lead design, development, implementation, and governance of enterprise customer CIAM solutions
- Provide architectural guidance across programming languages, frameworks, application domains, and distributed systems
- Lead authentication and authorization frameworks using OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, token-based security, and IAM solutions
- Review testing methodologies and code coverage for application quality and production readiness
- Drive performance, resiliency, scalability, monitoring, and optimization practices
- Champion DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure automation, and observability
- Partner with technology and business teams to identify process improvements and technical enhancements
- Communicate architecture, progress, risks, and challenges to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Contribute to architecture, engineering standards, technology strategy, documentation, knowledge sharing, and internal forums
- Adhere to risk, regulatory, audit, and internal control standards; escalate risk issues as needed
- Promote a culture of belonging reflecting the M&T Bank brand
- Complete other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Associate’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ systems analysis and/or application development work experience, or Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ systems analysis and/or application development work experience
- In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years’ education and/or relevant work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ systems analysis and/or application development work experience
- Expert proficiency in a minimum of 1 relevant programming language and professional proficiency in a minimum of 1 additional relevant programming language
- Advanced proficiency in C# and expertise developing enterprise-scale applications
- Strong experience with JavaScript and Angular development
- Demonstrated experience across multiple programming languages, frameworks, and technology stacks
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles, application design patterns, and distributed systems concepts
- Experience implementing and supporting customer-facing authentication and authorization frameworks, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, and token-based security models
- Experience with identity and access management tools and platforms
- Hands-on experience with source control platforms, CI/CD pipelines, automated build and deployment processes, and DevOps practices
- Experience utilizing application monitoring, observability, and performance management tools
- Proficiency with collaboration platforms and project management tools supporting Agile delivery methodologies
- No direct supervisory responsibilities; provides technical leadership, mentoring, coaching, and guidance to development teams
- Preferred: expert application-development analytical skills; Agile team experience; autonomous work while influencing technical direction; complex initiative management; organizational and time-management skills; advanced verbal and written communication skills; project milestone and delivery experience; technical project or modernization leadership; cross-functional stakeholder presentation; application architecture and technical standards; mentoring engineers; knowledge of cloud-native development and Azure
