Job Description

Managing strategic metallurgy and mineral-processing projects for Freeport-McMoRan, a global mining company. Providing technical oversight, operational support, mentorship, and reserve-reporting expertise.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee strategic metallurgical projects across growth projects, operational support functions, and corporate initiatives
  • Provide direct technical support, mentorship, and advisement on mineral processing topics
  • Promote industry best practices across operating companies
  • Potentially perform reserve reporting sign-off
  • Lead strategic project planning, including project identification and formulation, decision methodology, stakeholder evaluation, and resource definition
  • Interact with internal and external resources on growth projects
  • Execute technical development work and quantify cost impacts
  • Regularly communicate project status and outcomes to stakeholders
  • Perform metallurgical support activities for project sites, including reserve reporting functions as required
  • Prepare annual budgets and resourcing plans
  • Recruit personnel and manage small technical teams
  • Prepare and present updates to executive management and external business partners
  • Develop technical materials for patents and conferences
  • Maintain and expand an industry network in extractive metallurgy and mineral processing
  • Work virtually with occasional travel for meetings, training, team events, and mine sites up to 25% as business needs require

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Ten (10) years of experience in mineral processing and leaching processes
  • Five (5) years of experience in operations roles, preferably leading teams
  • Three (3) years of experience working on projects or other technical initiatives involving mining and engineering companies
  • Strong experience affecting change in operating processing plants
  • Strong working knowledge of geo-metallurgical testing, data interpretation, and modeling tools for forecasting
  • Strong working knowledge of processing techniques of large Porphyry copper deposits
  • Demonstrated history of interpreting geo-metallurgical results and performing regression analyses and/or simulations to develop grade and recovery models for ore types
  • Demonstrated data-centric capabilities using structured problem-solving approaches with statistics and regression tools
  • Specialized technical expertise in three disciplines and general knowledge in five disciplines, including crushing, grinding, flotation, copper smelting, precious metal refining, solvent extraction, electrowinning, liquid-solid separation, tailings, materials handling, process modeling and simulation, statistical analysis, process control, sampling and assaying, and metallurgical accounting
  • Broad experience in mineral processing plant technical support or operations management
  • MBA or related certification or experience in financial and economic evaluations
  • Experience managing small technical teams, including direct supervision
  • Experience managing large and complex multi-discipline projects
  • Excellent communication skills and strong execution capability
  • Excellent cross-discipline communication skills
  • Mandatory pre-employment drug testing as allowed by applicable laws
  • Ability to undertake required international and domestic travel
