Job Description
Market Development Lead advancing OET’s open-source energy modeling across Asian energy markets. Building institutional relationships, partnerships, tenders, and funded projects for a global energy-transition nonprofit.
Responsibilities:
- Accelerate adoption of open-source energy modelling across selected priority markets in Asia
- Build relationships with system operators, ministries, regulators, consultants, research institutions and other energy-planning organizations
- Grow awareness of open-source energy modelling through engagement, conferences, seminars, workshops and regional networks
- Identify opportunities where open approaches can make a meaningful difference and turn conversations into project concepts
- Help identify potential funders and develop funding routes when funding is needed
- Respond to tenders and procurement processes, including opportunities from the Asian Development Bank and other international institutions
- Monitor emerging priorities, institutional developments, funding opportunities, competing approaches and changes in Asia’s energy-modelling landscape
- Feed regional insights to senior leadership, Marketing, and Communications to improve strategy, positioning and outreach
- Advise technical project teams on the context of Asian energy-system modelling
- Own opportunities from initial engagement through contracting, collaborating with OET colleagues and the Head of Research & Market Development on large or strategic opportunities
- Report to the Head of Research & Market Development
- Work closely with Marketing and Project Leads
- Undertake regular regional travel, with at least monthly travel expected
Requirements:
- English proficiency is mandatory
- Significant relevant experience, typically 8+ years
- Relevant experience in market development, consulting, a system operator, ministry, regulator, university or research organization
- Ability to work autonomously in a fully remote, geographically distributed team
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and adapt in an evolving environment
- Strong communication, tactfulness and asynchronous cross-functional collaboration skills
- Meaningful relationships with energy sector institutions in at least some priority Asian markets
- Understanding of energy planning decisions, influential stakeholders and institutional interactions
- Hands-on experience with power or energy system modelling
- Understanding of energy modelling approaches, capabilities and limitations
- Ability to build trust, lead conversations with senior decision makers, deliver presentations and seminars, facilitate workshops, and explain complex technical subjects
- Strong judgment and ability to turn relationships into funded projects or contracts
- Genuine commitment to open-source approaches
- Entrepreneurial, culturally aware and highly autonomous working style
- German and other language proficiency is a bonus
- Experience with PyPSA or other open-source projects is a bonus
- Experience at a startup, nonprofit and/or in the energy sector is a bonus
- Experience on a fully remote, distributed team is a bonus
- Experience with xxxxxx TOOLS or similar platforms is a bonus
- Experience responding to tenders or developing projects with multilateral or bilateral development institutions is a bonus
- Experience with development finance, philanthropic funding or donor-funded energy programs is a bonus
- A university degree is not required
