Job Description

Mid-level Data Scientist leveraging deep learning and computer vision to transform video streams into structured data. Join HandTalk in breaking communication barriers for the deaf community.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on work on Data Science projects, preferably with experience in Computer Vision or NLP;
  • Strong command of fundamental machine learning concepts (proper data splitting, regularization, hyperparameter tuning);
  • Ability to define and compute performance metrics (Accuracy, Precision, Recall, F1-Score) and optimize inference time for real-time operation;
  • Practical experience using version control (Git) and Scrum ceremonies;
  • Strong knowledge of Python for data manipulation, feature extraction, and model training;
  • Practical knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript for running and integrating models in the frontend;
  • Experience with Deep Learning frameworks (TensorFlow) and Computer Vision (integration of the MediaPipe library combined with OpenCV);
  • Basic system architecture knowledge and the ability to package simple applications in Docker containers for delivery to Engineering.

Requirements:

  • Build, train, and fine-tune neural network models (TensorFlow) focused on recognizing spatial and temporal signals in sign language videos;
  • Collect, balance, and apply preprocessing and feature engineering techniques to multimodal data;
  • Actively collaborate with the Linguists team to define criteria, domains, and standards for reference videos that need to be recorded and cataloged for training;
  • Prepare, convert, and optimize trained Python models so they run efficiently with low latency in the user's browser via JavaScript;
  • Structure code, dependencies, and model artifacts in an organized way (via Docker/Git) ensuring a clean handoff to the Engineering team;
