Job Description

PhD studentship investigating mechanisms of reactions causing corrosion in CO2 streams. Developing methodologies for mitigation focusing on competitive oxidation in gas mixtures.

Responsibilities:

  • investigate mechanisms of reactions that lead to corrosion
  • develop methodologies to mitigate corrosion processes
  • focus on competitive oxidation in mixtures of NOx, SOx, H2S, and CH3OH dissolved in CO2
  • modelling work concentrated on reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, solvent effects
  • analysis of experimental data
  • possible experimental work depending on student interest

Requirements:

  • good honours degree (minimum 2(i) honours or equivalent) or MSc/MRes in a relevant discipline
  • good understanding of chemical kinetics
  • some experience with computer algebra packages (Maple, Mathematica, Python)
  • enthusiasm for the subject
