Job Description
Part-time doctoral social work mentor guiding Capella University learners through asynchronous GuidedPath courses. Providing research feedback, committee participation, and timely academic support.
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality instruction using a pre-designed curriculum
- Mentor doctoral learners and participate in doctoral committees
- Provide relevant feedback to support successful completion
- Be available within 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays, by phone, email, and in the courseroom
- Travel within the US to participate in doctoral residencies
- Use the online learning platform to enrich the learning experience
- Establish high standards and explain evaluation criteria
- Adhere to University policies and procedures
- Attend faculty meetings, workshops, and training as required
- Participate in other activities based on university needs
- Guide asynchronous 10-week course discussions and provide assignment feedback
- Support learners' academic progress, study habits, and timely completion
Requirements:
- Professional experience in the discipline with a minimum of two years required for undergraduate level and three years required for graduate level
- Research, scholarship, or achievement in the discipline required for graduate-level
- At the doctoral level, experience with how to conduct and oversee research in the discipline required
- Knowledge of qualitative research required
- A master’s degree from an accredited Council on Social Work Education and a regionally accredited program is required
- Doctorate from an accredited institution in social work or a closely related area required
- All degrees must be conferred from a regionally accredited institution
- Must hold a Social Work graduate-level license
- Must obtain, at a minimum, a Graduate Level Social Work licensure in the State of Minnesota upon hire, including passing the ASWB exam with their current graduate-level license
- Experience with scholarly writing and use of APA (7th edition) format
- Demonstrated knowledge of academic evaluation
- Proficiency in oral presentation skills, planning, and organizing of course objectives
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of academic technology
- Strong computer skills
- Ability to manage potentially stressful situations in a professional and ethical manner
- Understanding of accommodating the unique needs and expertise of each student
- Commitment to meeting the expectations and requirements of a diversity of students
- Ability to follow established case management protocols for at-risk learners
- Must be able to travel occasionally within the US
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States
- Visa sponsorship is not available
- Must be able to access information using a computer and work from a setting with a computer, privacy, reliable internet access, phone, and video conferencing capability
