Job Description

Platform Engineer helping Defense Unicorns deliver secure software for U.S. government defense missions. Integrating applications, Kubernetes, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and cloud-native security.

Responsibilities:

  • Join the Navy Delivery team at the intersection of platform engineering, application development, DevOps, and application security
  • Help application teams integrate, package, secure, deploy, and operate software on the Unicorn Delivery Service (UDS) and Kubernetes-based environments
  • Work with application source code, APIs, containers, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes resources, Helm charts, and production runtime concerns
  • Translate application-team needs into repeatable deployment artifacts and processes
  • Identify issues across application and platform layers
  • Support CI/CD components, runner deployments and maintenance, UDS packaging, Kubernetes and Helm configuration, observability, security controls, and process automation
  • Evaluate methods for solving complex technical problems and identify innovative solutions
  • Solve problems spanning multiple knowledge domains and contribute to strategic planning
  • Implement infrastructure as code and build or maintain Kubernetes clusters across distributions such as EKS and RKE2
  • Apply cloud-native deployment experience, secure coding practices, and vulnerability remediation
  • Build relationships with external teams and collaborate with platform teams
  • Travel 4–12 times per year

Requirements:

  • Professional experience developing, deploying, supporting, or operating production applications or platform environments
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies, containers, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, or Kubernetes-based environments
  • Strong Linux/Unix skills and ability to troubleshoot across application and platform layers
  • Experience with application architectures, source code, APIs, containers, runtime dependencies, or deployment requirements
  • Experience with YAML-based configuration such as Kubernetes manifests, Helm configuration, CRDs, or CI/CD pipelines
  • Familiarity with security practices related to applications, APIs, containers, cloud infrastructure, or vulnerability remediation
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and adapt to unfamiliar technologies and ambiguous technical problems
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with application, platform, and external teams
  • Eligible to apply for and maintain a U.S. government security clearance
  • Ability to obtain a DoD 8570 IAT II certification
  • Preferred: Deep expertise in full-stack application development, Kubernetes, GitOps, CI/CD, Tofu, AWS, Go, or related technologies
  • Preferred: Production experience with Kubernetes, including EKS, RKE2, or similar distributions
  • Preferred: Experience designing, implementing, integrating, or troubleshooting APIs and backend services
  • Preferred: Experience with C#/.NET, Python/FastAPI, React, Vue, or NGINX-hosted applications
  • Preferred: Experience with Helm, GitOps, observability, distributed architectures, security automation, or everything-as-code practices
  • Preferred: Experience mentoring and developing other engineers
  • Preferred: Active U.S. government security clearance and/or current DoD 8570 IAT II certification
  • Preferred: Department of Defense experience, particularly supporting a production ATO system
  • Preferred: Experience with UDS Core, Iron Bank, and/or C-ATO processes
