Job Description
Portfolio Manager defining strategy for Cengage’s English language learning products. Building market-led proposals and growing profitable global education portfolios.
Responsibilities:
- Define product vision and strategy based on market research and customer needs
- Establish business cases, market positioning, and competitive benchmarking for the Adult & Academic portfolio addressing global markets
- Provide product leadership representing the portfolio across audiences
- Lead a profitable product line and develop strategic business plans to access opportunities and expand into key growth markets
- Build relationships with adoption decision makers and market influencers to gather customer insights
- Use customer insights to develop business proposals and make strategic investment decisions
- Identify and test product ideas through focus groups, advisory boards, reviews, and customer meetings
- Collaborate with Product Marketing to track product performance across the product life cycle and act on adoption blockers, portfolio gaps, opportunities, and retention needs
- Maintain relationships with authors, series editors, consultants, and academic researchers
- Collaborate with Academic/Learning Design, Content Production, Marketing, Sales, Product Technology, and other functional teams on discipline-specific and pan-Cengage initiatives
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification
- Minimum 5 years in product management, business development, or another relevant management role
- Proactive problem-solving and ability to establish communication channels and information sources across multiple interfaces and business functions
- Experience conducting product research and building and implementing focused research plans with clear goals
- Ability to translate customer needs and challenges into opportunities and articulate a product vision
- Ability to establish collaborative working relationships and build credibility
- Ability to clearly articulate vision and strategy to extended team members
- Ability to present compelling proposals to diverse audiences, including senior leadership
- Strong financial analysis and modelling skills and understanding of business metrics
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time
- Preferred: qualification in educational research and/or data analysis
- Preferred: proficiency in one or more additional languages; Spanish or Arabic particularly desirable
