Job Description
Principal Software Engineer building secure, continuously deployed software for FuturePlan, Ascensus’s retirement-plan administration business. Leading architecture, Scrum delivery, mentoring, and technical innovation.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze software requirements to determine solutions for business goals, including estimation and planning throughout an agile software development lifecycle
- Modify codebases to implement complex software changes following coding standards, design patterns, source code control, unit testing, and continuous integration and deployment practices
- Analyze and troubleshoot complex software application errors to determine root causes and resolutions
- Assist with testing and writing descriptions of application software changes
- Collaborate with team members and participate in Scrum ceremonies and activities, including pair programming and peer code review
- Align with the Product Owner to understand, influence, and deliver roadmaps
- Take responsibility for application architecture and technical execution
- Lead or assist technical research initiatives and participate in technical architecture discussions
- Influence technical decisions and maintain consistency across the organization
- Coach, mentor, and provide continuous feedback to team members
- Protect, secure, and properly handle confidential Ascensus and client data
- Demonstrate the organization’s service philosophy and core values through daily actions
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering or related experience preferred
- Strong technical leadership skills for participation in design discussions with technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to create technical documentation and diagrams
- Experience mentoring and technically coaching less experienced developers
- Extensive understanding of object-oriented design principles, including patterns, cohesion/coupling, S.O.L.I.D., data structures and algorithms
- Strong experience writing clean and maintainable code using unit testing, TDD, continuous integration and deployment, automation, design patterns, refactoring, and other engineering best practices
- Strong experience with Agile SDLC practices
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work remotely with an uninterrupted workspace and family care in place during business hours
- Internet connection of 25 Mbps or better for individual use
