Job Description

Coding Specialist responsible for accurate medical record coding and compliance within WVU Health System. Collaborating with physicians and Revenue Cycle Operations for optimal coding and billing accuracy.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accurate and appropriate gathering of information into the coding classification systems.
  • Obtain accurate documentation in the medical record for coding assignments.
  • Analyze and resolve issues of missing charges and problem accounts.
  • Review medical records documentation to identify all diagnosis and procedures affecting the inpatient stay or outpatient encounter.
  • Assure quality and timely coding and abstraction of accounts daily for assigned specialty areas.
  • Provide assistance to Revenue Cycle Operations in claim development functions.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Current HIM/Coding Certification through ONE of the following : American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC)
  • Two (2) years of medical coding experience.
  • Core duties include accurately interpreting medical records and assigning appropriate codes (ICD-10, CPT, etc.)
  • Contact physicians or any necessary personnel to obtain information required for coding assignments.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy during constant interruptions and handle high stress situations.
