Job Description

Project Engineer improving Greif’s packaging manufacturing equipment and processes. Leading mechanical/electrical projects, safety upgrades, automation, and plant reliability initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Regional Engineering Manager
  • Support creative engineering solutions to production process issues through equipment and subcomponent modification and improvement, or new product design and development
  • Lead projects and implement equipment or process improvements within the assigned region
  • Manage development and execution of several concurrent medium-complexity projects valued at $2M+ each, including scope, requirements, schedules, cost estimates, budgets, and resources
  • Plan technical project activities to meet safety, regulatory, and policy requirements
  • Design and develop basic mechanical layouts for new products and manufacturing processes
  • Suggest improvements to existing equipment and processes
  • Define and draft technical requirements specifications for asset and service acquisition
  • Develop project documentation and handover packages
  • Optimize manufacturing processes, including process control, setup, changeover, automation, die development, equipment selection, and lean workflow improvements
  • Work with EH&S resources to identify and implement equipment safety standards, risks, and procedures
  • Support equipment safety upgrades across the plant network and promote PPE and safe work practices
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders and manage project execution to scope
  • Provide technical consultation to plant maintenance groups on equipment installation, troubleshooting, process control, and repair
  • Travel extensively and work at facilities with minimal guidance to establish and implement improvement plans
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Typically possesses Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Engineering (Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering Preferred)
  • 5-7+ years of Project Engineering in manufacturing environment with practical expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering
  • Mechanical engineering knowledge and application, including mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment and component design
  • Hands-on experience with set-up, troubleshooting, changeover, automation, and die optimization
  • Experience with new product development, design, trials, and material selection
  • Basic electrical experience relating to control of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Experience leading medium-complexity projects
  • Experience developing detailed plans to improve plant reliability, robustness, and profitability
  • Ability to understand and follow electrical diagrams
  • Knowledge of electrical components and instrumentation
  • Ability to follow controls and programming logic for manufacturing processes
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical codes
  • Understanding of OSHA, regulatory compliance, and industrial safety practices
  • Understanding of financial details related to ROI and NPV
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and 3D
  • Advanced use of Microsoft Office tools, MS Project, and Smartsheet
  • Extensive travel required
  • Spanish speaking is a plus
  • Electrical engineering knowledge of machine control is a plus
  • Experience with basic power and control circuits is a plus
  • Experience configuring and programming PLCs, motor controls, and electrical protection is a plus
  • Knowledge of plastic blow molding and injection molding processes and equipment is a plus
  • Knowledge of mold and die design is a plus
  • Machine PLC programming and process control setup is a plus
  • Electromechanical troubleshooting experience is a plus
