Job Description

Senior Scientific Writer leading scientific document review, clearance, and publication. Supporting Tanaq’s federal public-health and technical services for government agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the review and approval of clearance actions, including funding, protocol, and publication actions
  • Write and/or edit technical and scientific documents, including scientific manuscripts
  • Interpret and explain a wide range of topics in written products
  • Tailor written products for audiences with differing levels of interest and understanding
  • Support development of technical writing capacity among Atlanta-based and field staff
  • Assist with document development and review to ensure quality before documents enter the official clearance system
  • Negotiate and incorporate pre-clearance comments in coordination with the primary author
  • Assist in overseeing finalization and clearance of publications
  • Conduct final reviews for logic, clarity, style, consistency, and format aligned with intended publication
  • Write and publish documents supporting professional services for web publication

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience writing, editing, and coordinating scientific, technical, or public health documents
  • 2 years of prior experience working at CDC required
  • Experience developing and editing scientific manuscripts
  • Experience developing and editing peer-reviewed journal articles
  • Experience developing and editing technical reports
  • Experience developing and editing guidance documents
  • Experience developing and editing research protocols
  • Experience developing and editing funding or clearance packages
  • Experience supporting document review, approval, and publication workflows
  • Experience collaborating with subject matter experts, researchers, scientists, epidemiologists, clinicians, and program staff
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent document review cycles and competing deadlines
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders and external partners
  • Experience writing, reviewing, and editing internal and external program communication materials
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office products, including Microsoft Teams and Zoom meeting management
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to efficiently manage and respond to multiple requests and priorities
  • Ability to think critically, analyze situations and data, and solve problems
  • Ability to obtain government clearance
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Life Sciences, Epidemiology, Biomedical Sciences, Health Communications, Technical Writing, or a related scientific discipline
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
