Job Description
CAT property adjuster investigating and negotiating field property claims for an insurance carrier. Managing inspections, settlements, litigation-related activities, and customer relationships.
Responsibilities:
- Handle property claims requiring outside field investigations and/or inspections
- Establish rapport with insureds and maintain relationships with agents, underwriters, contractors, restoration vendors, and experts
- Maintain knowledge of territory geography, property-claim regulations and law, public safety and regulatory agencies, insurance and legal climate, and public adjusters
- Handle business interruption features in conjunction with BI specialists
- Work within specified limits and moderate settlement/reserving authority
- Investigate, analyze, evaluate, and negotiate personal claims of minimal to moderate complexity
- Handle low-complexity commercial claims as needed
- Manage all aspects of claims, including informal hearings, arbitrations, and small claims litigation
- Maintain productivity, confidentiality, and customer service standards
- Implement and coordinate management techniques to mitigate loss and expense payments
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience with an insurance carrier as a staff CAT or Property Adjuster
- Must have or secure and maintain appropriate state adjuster license(s) and continuing education credits
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to negotiate skillfully in difficult situations with internal and external groups
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of applicable statutes, regulations and case law
- Critical thinking and timely problem-solving ability
- Ability to adapt to changing situations, requirements or priorities
- Teamwork and collaboration skills
- Ability to operate with latitude for un-reviewed action or decision
- Ability to use a personal computer and standard office equipment
- Ability to travel 75% of the time, often on little to no notice
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle 4-5 hours per day and repeatedly get in and out of the vehicle
- Ability to load and unload equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds
- Ability to bend, walk, and climb for several consecutive hours while inspecting damaged buildings
