Job Description
Senior buyer leading sourcing, negotiations, and supplier management across $130M in capital projects. Supporting ScottsMiracle-Gro, a branded lawn and garden care products marketer.
Responsibilities:
- Develop category strategies, secure customer alignment, and execute them
- Lead assigned sourcing projects through market analysis, the RFX process, negotiations, contract creation, and contract management
- Serve as a business partner to internal stakeholders by understanding project needs and providing proactive, solution-oriented procurement support
- Drive cost-saving initiatives aligned with company goals
- Assess micro- and macro-economic factors and conduct financial analyses to identify industry opportunities and develop risk-mitigation strategies
- Identify and gain alignment on new savings and value-add opportunities
- Determine total cost of ownership for procured products and services
- Adhere to budgetary constraints
- Evaluate supplier capabilities, cost structures, risks, and partnership potential
- Drive projects at the executive level within Scotts and with supplier executives
- Travel to jobsites up to 25% of the time
Requirements:
- BS or BA in Purchasing, Engineering, or another business-related field
- 4–7 years of relevant procurement experience
- Proven track record in complex contract negotiation and comprehensive lifecycle management
- Expertise in financial analysis, cost model development, and project management
- Strong executive presence and ability to influence and communicate with stakeholders at all levels
- Proven record of implementing new procurement concepts and driving change
- Strong computer skills, including SAP, Ariba, Google Workspace, and MS Office Suite
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Highly inquisitive nature with proactive drive to understand project details
- Ability to work independently and prioritize projects in a high-pace, collaborative environment
- Experience with Engineering or Construction management teams is a nice-to-have
- Experience with SAP is a nice-to-have
