Job Description
Senior Data Engineer modeling healthcare data and governed metrics for Machinify’s AI-powered payment intelligence platform. Building dbt, Power BI, and observability systems for health plan operations.
Responsibilities:
- Run discovery with business stakeholders and turn needs into buildable acceptance criteria
- Model noisy healthcare operational data into certified dimensional models across Databricks bronze-to-silver-to-gold architecture using dbt and SQL
- Own governed metric definitions and consolidate business logic into a semantic layer
- Build and own Power BI semantic models, dashboards, and paginated reports
- Monitor refresh health and semantic-model currency
- Own model observability, including freshness and latency detection, statistical anomaly detection, value-drift monitoring, data tests, regression guards, and CI checks
- Design and manage dbt Cloud jobs and Airflow DAGs, scheduling, dependencies, and incremental runs
- Create design documents, model documentation, a CI-enforced knowledge base, and business-readable handoff materials
- Automate recurring work through repeatable, testable, AI-assisted workflows
- Collaborate directly with finance, operations, and client-facing teams
- Support a governed semantic layer for a healthcare payment integrity business
Requirements:
- 6+ years across analytics engineering, BI engineering, data engineering, or business analysis, with production ownership of the models and metrics built
- Expert SQL and strong dimensional modeling instincts
- Production dbt experience including models, tests, macros, exposures, documentation, and CI
- Hands-on experience with a cloud lakehouse or warehouse
- Databricks and Spark SQL preferred; Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift transferable
- Experience owning a BI semantic layer and reports
- Power BI and DAX strongly preferred; Looker/LookML, Tableau, MetricFlow, or Cube as substitutes
- Ability to run requirements conversations with non-technical stakeholders and turn vague complaints into testable definitions
- Reconciliation-oriented approach to resolving discrepancies
- Git and pull-request discipline
- Python for API calls, file parsing, statistics, and report generation
- Comfort with high autonomy in a fast, async, Slack-first environment
- Strong writing skills
- E-Verify participation and applicable employment authorization requirements
- Bonus: healthcare data experience, including claims (837/835/UB04), DRG and coding review, payment integrity, provider contracts, or revenue cycle
- Bonus: data contracts, schema enforcement, ODCS-style governance, and quality gating in CI
- Bonus: Databricks Unity Catalog, lineage, and cost/DBU accountability
- Bonus: paginated reporting, SharePoint/Excel delivery, or similar business delivery surfaces
