Job Description
Senior Data Engineer leading scalable data architecture, warehousing, and pipeline projects. Velir supports nonprofits and Fortune 500 brands through data and analytics consulting.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee data engineering projects for client data solutions engagements
- Bridge technical gaps and make decisions across ambiguous or complex assignments
- Contribute to organizational alignment by translating context across teams and for less technical colleagues
- Ensure large and complex engineering projects align with business outcomes
- Mentor data solutions team members, data engineering managers, and other data engineers
- Embed with client teams to unblock and upskill them
- Design data architecture and data warehouses
- Ensure data quality, scalability, performance, and security
- Recommend and implement data engineering tools and technologies suited to client needs
- Optimize low-latency data pipelines and design real-time or micro-batch processing solutions
- Design, build, and maintain large-scale data infrastructure integrating disparate data sources
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer or related role, focused on designing and developing data pipelines
- Strong programming skills in Python and SQL
- Deep knowledge of data warehousing and ETL/ELT processes
- Intermediate/expert proficiency with data integration/orchestration platforms such as Fivetran, Azure Data Factory, or Apache Airflow
- Deep experience with at least one cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks
- Strong experience with at least one cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Experience mentoring and advising other engineers
- Ability to define, explain, and sell long-term technical architecture vision and approaches
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Professional proficiency in English, verbally and in writing
- Frequent sitting at a desk performing computer-based work
- Must not require employer sponsorship; Velir cannot accept candidates on OPT or CPT
- Scala and Rust experience is a plus but not required
- Streaming solutions experience is desirable but not required
- MLOps familiarity is a plus but not required
