Job Description
Senior Data Scientist developing AI, predictive models, and scalable data pipelines for VSP Vision. Delivering business insights through machine learning, statistical analysis, and visualization.
Responsibilities:
- Model complex business problems and discover business insights using statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques
- Mine available data to identify trends and patterns and generate insights for lines of business and senior leadership
- Partner with lines of business to identify questions and issues for data analysis and experiments
- Perform complex statistical analysis on experimental or business data to validate and quantify trends or patterns
- Construct predictive models, algorithms, and probability engines to support data analysis or product functions
- Verify model and algorithm effectiveness based on real-world results
- Identify meaningful insights from large data and metadata sources
- Interpret and communicate insights and findings from analysis and experiments to product, service, and business managers
- Develop and code software programs, algorithms, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large datasets from disparate sources
- Research and apply existing and emerging data science principles, theories, and techniques to inform business decisions
- Use advanced mathematical and statistical concepts to analyze and collect data and construct solutions to business problems
- Participate in research and implement cutting-edge machine learning, deep learning, and artificial intelligence techniques and tools
- Support user experience specialists and information architects in enhancing information visualization through dashboards and user interface best practices
- Provide consultations to analytics and product teams for data-based experimentation
- Assist in communicating Enterprise data governance principles throughout the company
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, statistics, economics, or related functional area; or equivalent experience
- Six years of demonstrated data analytics and/or data science experience, including big data analysis tools and techniques
- With a Master’s degree or higher, six or more years of relevant experience required
- Experience building and deploying predictive models, web scraping, and scalable data pipelines
- Experience using statistical modeling and machine learning to solve complex business problems
- Experience with data discovery/analysis platforms such as SPSS Modeler, KNIME, or similar
- Coding knowledge and experience in languages such as R, Python/Jupyter, SAS, Java, Scala, C++, or similar
- Experience with database programming languages such as SQL and PL/SQL for relational databases
- Preferably experience with nonrelational databases such as NoSQL, Hadoop, MongoDB, Cassandra, and others
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and analytical skills
- Strategic skills, business acumen, and curiosity to support envisioning work, program planning, and strategic partnerships
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment
- Ability to remain current in data science techniques, approaches, and software
- For remote roles, ability to maintain a high level of engagement in virtual environments, including camera presence during meetings
- Must comply with VSP Vision Information Security and Privacy Policies when accessing sensitive personal information
