Job Description

Senior Energy Trading Manager optimizing Energy Vault’s utility-scale battery storage fleet in ERCOT and CAISO. Developing bids, managing risk, and improving automated trading performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-ahead and real-time energy and ancillary service offers for Energy Vault’s utility-scale BESS fleet in ERCOT and CAISO
  • Own trading strategy and execute offers using internal software and forecasting tools
  • Follow QSE and Scheduling Coordinator operating procedures and intervene with manual trading when needed
  • Establish trading-performance frameworks and success metrics; monitor performance and risk metrics and communicate results
  • Participate in physical dispatch and optimization of BESS assets
  • Oversee day-ahead trading strategy and allocate storage capacity across day-ahead energy, real-time energy, and ancillary service markets
  • Serve as subject-matter expert on wholesale electricity trading, market fundamentals, bidding strategy, and ISO protocols
  • Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and asset operations teams to refine optimization software and translate findings into product requirements
  • Develop processes to identify transmission constraints and adjust optimization strategies
  • Contribute to hedging strategy and potentially execute energy futures and options trades
  • Monitor ISO regulatory and market-design developments and communicate commercial and operational implications
  • Report to the Head of Optimization & Trading

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, economics, finance, or another quantitative field
  • 5+ years of power trading experience at a utility, IPP, trading firm, or energy trading software company
  • Experience in energy storage asset trading preferred
  • Deep expertise in ERCOT operating protocols and rules, with working knowledge across multiple markets
  • Deep understanding of transmission topology, ISO LMP and ancillary service pricing, and power flow constraints
  • Understanding of risk management and ability to maximize revenue subject to risk constraints
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation, including occasional evening or weekend coverage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills; ability to interpret complex datasets and produce actionable recommendations
  • Working experience in Python preferred
  • Strong Excel skills required
  • Experience with financial products such as virtuals, CRR/FTR, or forward contracts is a plus
  • Self-directed, highly organized, and able to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%
  • Comfortable in fast-paced, rapid-growth environments
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check
