Job Description
Senior Engineering Manager leading Coinbase’s data platform team building scalable data services and governance capabilities. Guiding engineers, technical strategy, reliability, and delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and grow engineers; support their development and career progression
- Partner with Product, Design, Engineering, and senior leaders to set a clear quarterly roadmap and deliver it iteratively
- Guide technical decisions and promote high-quality code, sound engineering practices, and reliable distributed systems
- Stay close to the work through design and code reviews, incident leadership, on-call participation, and troubleshooting when needed
- Own processes that improve engineering quality and help the team meet its service-level commitments
- Partner with recruiting to attract and hire strong engineers
- Lead a team developing reliable data services and privacy and governance capabilities for responsible data use
Requirements:
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, ideally in data platform or infrastructure, including 2+ years in engineering management
- Experience building, delivering, and operating distributed systems at scale
- Strong engineering judgment and the ability to foster quality, maintainability, and effective development practices
- An execution-focused approach: able to work through ambiguity, balance near-term delivery with long-term planning, and turn complex goals into actionable work
- A hands-on leadership style and willingness to engage in technical work and operational responsibilities
- Experience leading technical change in a large, fast-moving organization
- Familiarity with blockchain infrastructure, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum
- Clear communication, ownership, and a strong customer focus
- Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality
