Job Description

Senior Foundations Officer managing foundation relationships and proposals for Community Catalyst, a national health justice organization. Advancing funding for equitable, accessible, and accountable health systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage an assigned portfolio of foundation funders and prospects, including engagement plans, deadlines, next steps, and revenue goals
  • Cultivate trusted relationships with program officers and serve as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned funders
  • Develop stewardship and renewal strategies to deepen relationships and position Community Catalyst for continued or expanded support
  • Prepare briefings and meeting materials, coordinate internal participants, and ensure timely follow-up
  • Research, qualify, and advance prospects aligned with organizational priorities and foundation revenue strategy
  • Conduct outreach and discovery to assess alignment, timing, decision-making processes, and viable paths to support
  • Lead concept papers, letters of inquiry, proposals, renewal requests, presentations, and other funder-facing materials
  • Translate complex policy, advocacy, research, and systems-change work into clear narratives connecting strategy, outcomes, learning, and impact
  • Coordinate proposal timelines, internal reviews, budgets, attachments, approvals, and submissions with program and finance colleagues
  • Coordinate accurate and timely narrative and financial reports
  • Monitor grant requirements, deadlines, and relationship milestones
  • Maintain complete Salesforce records, including contacts, activities, opportunity stages, projections, deadlines, and next steps
  • Build cross-team relationships to understand emerging work, funding needs, and philanthropic opportunities
  • Provide concise portfolio updates for pipeline reviews, forecasting, and Advancement planning
  • Elevate risks or barriers promptly
  • Perform other related duties as needed to advance the organization's fundraising goals

Requirements:

  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in foundation relations, institutional fundraising, advancement, or a related field
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Experience managing foundation relationships and opportunities through cultivation, solicitation, reporting, and renewal
  • Excellent persuasive writing and editing skills across proposals, concept papers, letters of inquiry, presentations, and reports
  • Ability to synthesize complex policy, advocacy, research, or systems-change work into clear and compelling funder communications
  • Strong project management, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and multiple stakeholders
  • Sound judgment and ability to work independently and collaboratively with funders, senior leaders, and cross-functional colleagues
  • Proficiency with CRM systems and disciplined data management
  • Salesforce experience preferred
  • Commitment to health justice, racial equity, and Community Catalyst's mission and values
  • Experience working with major national, regional, or health-focused foundations preferred
  • Experience fundraising in health justice, public health, health policy, advocacy, racial equity, or systems-change environments preferred
  • Familiarity with philanthropic networks, institutional funding trends, or multi-partner fundraising preferred
