Job Description
Senior Lead Full-Stack Engineer building Java/Spring Boot software products at Portuguese technology consultancy HumanIT. Leading architecture, mentoring engineers, and using AI-assisted development tools in remote-first teams.
Responsibilities:
- Work within a small, cross-functional engineering team building modern software products across dynamic and innovative projects
- Focus primarily on backend engineering while collaborating across the full stack
- Contribute to architecture discussions beyond immediate feature scope
- Use AI code assistance tools actively for development, refactoring, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting
- Shape how software is built and contribute to architecture decisions
- Guide or mentor other engineers
- Drive technical decisions, code quality, and engineering best practices
- Continuously learn and adopt new technologies
Requirements:
- 5+ years of backend development experience with Java in production environments
- Great English communication skills, written and spoken
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Strong hands-on experience with Spring and Spring Boot
- Solid software engineering fundamentals, including clean code, testing, code review, and CI/CD practices
- Experience with React or Angular
- Active use of AI coding assistants such as OpenCode, Ollama, Qwen3, Claude Code, or equivalent
- Comfortable using AI tooling for code generation, refactoring, unit test writing, documentation, and troubleshooting
- Pragmatic and critical approach to AI tools
- Previous team leadership experience, including guiding or mentoring engineers
- Genuine interest in software architecture
- Proactive approach to technical decisions, code quality, and engineering best practices
- Strong interest in learning and adopting new technologies
- Autonomous and proactive work style
- Critical-thinking skills
- Cloud platform experience preferred, especially GCP; AWS or Azure also valued
- Experience in a software house or product startup environment
- Contributions to architecture design at team or system level, including ADRs or tech specs
- Familiarity with containerisation, including Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices in a backend context
- JavaScript or TypeScript proficiency alongside backend work
