Job Description

Senior benefits leader owning US and global programs at Marqeta, an embedded-finance payments platform. Driving strategy, vendors, compliance, operations, employee experience, and annual Open Enrollment.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the strategy, design, and roadmap for Marqeta's US and global benefits programs
  • Evaluate program performance and market trends and recommend plan design, offerings, and cost-management strategies
  • Define and track benefits metrics and use data to inform decisions
  • Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and cost modeling
  • Serve as senior subject-matter expert and advisor to People leadership and stakeholders
  • Lead and develop the benefits function, including mentoring staff and managing broker/vendor-delivered work
  • Build partnerships with People Partners, Payroll, Finance, Legal, and Talent teams
  • Represent benefits in leadership discussions and translate compliance topics into guidance
  • Own vendor strategy, selection, RFPs, negotiations, contracts, and renewals
  • Manage broker and vendor performance against SLAs
  • Oversee vendor file feeds, integrations, troubleshooting, invoices, auditing, and reconciliation
  • Oversee benefits records and transactions in Workday
  • Reconcile enrollments to payroll deductions and resolve discrepancies
  • Lead operational projects, audits, implementations, communication campaigns, and scalable process documentation
  • Lead benefits integration for mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures
  • Own the employee benefits experience and complex escalations
  • Oversee Workday Help tickets and benefits inquiries
  • Design and deliver benefits communications and education
  • Own annual Open Enrollment, including planning, communications, testing, and reconciliation
  • Plan and execute wellness events and wellbeing initiatives
  • Own compliance and governance for benefit plans, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, NDT, 5500s, plan documents, SPDs, SMMs, SBCs, and state reporting
  • Monitor benefits legislation and advise leadership on organizational impact

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of progressive US benefits experience, including program strategy and design
  • 3+ years leading a benefits function, managing benefits staff, and/or directing work through brokers and vendors
  • Complete benefits renewal cycle ownership, including renewal strategy, broker/vendor negotiation, open enrollment, and reconciliation
  • Deep expertise in health and welfare programs and benefits compliance, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, NDT, and 5500s
  • Experience at scaling technology companies and in dynamic, ambiguous environments
  • Experience supporting benefits integration for mergers, acquisitions, or divestitures
  • Some experience with international/global benefits administration
  • Workday Benefits experience
  • Advanced Google Sheets expertise, or equivalent Excel expertise with willingness to work predominantly in Google Sheets
  • Strong executive communication, influence, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strategic and hands-on approach with strong attention to detail, accuracy, time management, prioritization, initiative, judgment, and results orientation
  • Collaborative, customer-centric approach
