Job Description

Senior Mechanical Engineer redesigning bolted battery-swap attachments for ALTEN Mexico’s automotive engineering projects. Sizing joints, coordinating CAE simulations, and presenting validated concepts to clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a 3-month concept study for a battery swap attachment joint
  • Redesign the bracket securing a 740 kg high-voltage battery to the vehicle frame
  • Size the 14-bolt M18 joint according to VDI 2230 standards
  • Scope simulation work with a CAE engineer
  • Drive the trade-off matrix and converge on a concept with the design engineer
  • Present the concept to the client at reviews scheduled for weeks 4, 8, and 12
  • Read crash load cases and challenging CAE results
  • Independently diagnose complex issues without relying exclusively on existing documentation

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of mechanical design experience, preferably in automotive or heavy vehicles
  • Focus on the attachment of the battery to the vehicle
  • Proven expertise with bolted joints
  • Proven expertise with preload
  • Proven expertise with slip
  • Proven expertise with separation
  • Proven expertise with vehicle structure integration
  • GD&T
  • Tolerance stack-up
  • VDI 2230
  • CATIA, NX or SolidWorks experience
  • Office Suite
  • English level C1 required (conversational)
  • Desirable: battery swapping
  • Desirable: quick-release mechanisms
  • Desirable: robot handling
  • Desirable: hands-on FEA
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to manage priorities and work in structured environments
  • Customer-oriented approach for supporting internal stakeholders
