Job Description
Senior Robotics Solutions Engineer integrating industrial robots with PackageX’s physical logistics platform. Designing safe palletizing and sortation systems for enterprise distribution centers.
Responsibilities:
- Lead technical discovery onsite at enterprise distribution centers
- Establish equipment and controls baselines for automation cells, including robot model, controller and firmware, I/O map, safety architecture, cameras, sensors, cycle times, throughput, and physical constraints
- Design, build, and commission control and motion logic for industrial palletizing and sortation cells
- Implement motion sequencing, pick and place, stacking and pallet-pattern logic, singulation, and recovery from partial or failed cycles
- Take ownership of installed and operating systems
- Own functional safety end to end, including risk assessment, safeguarding, emergency stops, interlocks, safe speed and separation, and customer documentation
- Build command and telemetry interfaces between PackageX, robot controllers, PLCs, fleet managers, conveyors, and sortation controls
- Use ROS 2, vendor SDKs, controller APIs, HTTPS/REST, MQTT, OPC UA, and industrial fieldbus as appropriate
- Convert vision-model classification and inspection outputs into safe, timely machine actions
- Design handling for model uncertainty, incorrect predictions, dropped links, partial task completion, and discrepancies between reported and physical state
- Build operator views for robot-driven work and human exception handling
- Produce documentation, test coverage, and internal training
- Represent PackageX technically with customers and collaborate with distribution directors, industrial engineers, IT leadership, plant engineers, maintenance technicians, and EHS teams
- Develop reusable PackageX robotics capabilities while identifying bespoke cell requirements
Requirements:
- Production experience programming and commissioning industrial robotic arms, including Yaskawa Motoman, Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or Universal Robots
- Fluency in robot motion, including kinematics, frames, tool center points, path planning, singularities, payload and reach limits, collision avoidance, and palletizing/depalletizing pattern logic
- Experience using teach pendants in production
- Functional safety knowledge, including ISO 10218, ISO/TS 15066 where applicable, risk assessment, safety-rated monitored stop, category and performance-level reasoning, and safety PLCs
- Controls integration experience with PLCs, industrial protocols, sensors, conveyors, sortation, and working-cell electrical systems
- ROS or ROS 2 production experience
- Strong Python and C++ on the robot side
- Production services experience in TypeScript, Node, Go, or Python, with event-driven integration
- Experience with REST, gRPC, MQTT, and WebSockets
- Ability to build a functional operator UI in React or similar
- Ability to reason about computer-vision latency, confidence thresholds, false positives, and uncertainty in relation to machine movement
- Experience delivering onsite for enterprise customers
- Ability to work around customer shift patterns
- Ability to document work for engineers and customer executives
- Ability to assess scope feasibility and communicate constraints with evidence
- Ability to distinguish reusable robotics platform capabilities from bespoke cell implementations
- Ability to evaluate technical choices against commercial constraints
Benefits:
- Three-month contract term
