Job Description
Senior Software Engineer architecting backend services, APIs, and ETL for Instacart’s paid marketing channels. Leading projects, technical direction, and engineering mentorship.
Responsibilities:
- Lead complete projects independently across backend services, APIs, and data pipelines
- Define experimentation, development, and rollout strategies across multiple systems
- Architect scalable, robust, performant, reliable, and cost-efficient solutions for high-throughput marketing operations
- Identify and solve underlying technical problems; design reusable abstractions
- Partner with Marketing and Product stakeholders to influence features, requirements, and technical/product strategy
- Make trade-offs between complexity, business value, and delivery timelines
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and onboarding
- Improve team productivity through process improvements and automation
Requirements:
- 5–8 years of software engineering experience
- Expert-level proficiency in Python for scalable backend services, APIs, and data pipelines
- Proven experience leading complete projects end-to-end, including architecture, implementation, experimentation, and production rollout
- Deep expertise with Snowflake, SQL, ETL processes, Airflow, and DBT
- Experience designing for performance, scalability, and robustness
- Experience implementing observability solutions including logging, metrics, and tracing
- Strong product thinking and ability to make strategic technical and business trade-offs
- Excellent communication skills and ability to mentor engineers and drive cross-team alignment
- Currently hiring candidates in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, or Nova Scotia
- Preferred: experience with automation frameworks, ad platform APIs, digital marketing operations, cloud cost optimization, chaos engineering, disaster recovery, technical debt modernization, security-by-design, incident response, and AI-assisted development infrastructure
